The Hillside Wine Shop

2008 Merlot

Tasting notes

The fruit for this well-crafted wine was sourced from selected terroirs throughout the southern Okanagan Valley. This elegant and refined Merlot is filled with aromas of cassis, caramel, and coffee which are mirrored in the palate, alongside flavours of ripe cherry, damson plum with hints of cocoa powder. The tannins are soft and silky, fashioning a lingering finish.

Food pairings

Barbeque duck, roasted leg of lamb, or pastas with tomato sauce all pair well with this beautifully structured Merlot.

Winemaking

The 2008 growing season gave us moderate summer heat and long Fall hang time for optimum ripening of this fruit-forward Merlot. Naramata Bench and Oliver Merlot grapes were de-stemmed, given a 3-day cold soak, fermented to near dryness on the skins, then drained to complete fermentation in American oak and stainless steel, preserving the bright berry aromas.
