2018 Founder's Block Gamay Noir

Old vines, planted in 1984 by our founder just to the south of the winery, and a warm summer produced the lovely fruit for this Gamay Noir. This gorgeous medium-bodied, fruit forward wine carries notes of raspberry and a hint of cedar. The palate delivers a fine, silky texture. An 8 day cold soak to extract bright fruit flavours was followed by fermentation with 21 days total skin contact. Barrel aged for 9 months in French (18% new) & Hungarian oak, this wine is made in a Burgundian-style.

Tasting Notes
This is a medium-bodied, fruit forward wine. Raspberry and cedar notes highlight the aroma, while the palate delivers a fine, silky texture. Gamay is the principle grape of the Beaujolais region—known for producing early release fun fruity wine. Made here in a more serious style, with barrel aging for 9 months to round out and refine the mid-palate structure.
